First, I would like to make it clear that I'm only evaluating the contents of this book, hence the score that I gave.To get this out of the way, I need to mention that the non-existing packaging of this book is simply insulting for such an amazing collection of digital painting techniques.To Amazon employees, if you are reading this: Please consider putting the book into some kind of a protective packaging. I got the same damaged book as the reviewer before me!About the contents of this book: Simply amazing! The book has many hands-on tutorials on painting impressive looking characters in photoshop. The book goes into detail:what the design considerations are,what the sketch needs to look like in order to apply values, color and more,working with silhouettes and compositions.Material studies, skin of the main body parts of both mail and female characters, painting folds and clothing and full instructions on painting realistic charcters that you could use for your computer game illustrations.There's no mention of art basics such as drawing, color theory, render shadows, lighting and depth . Although the tutorials include hands-on examples of these applied to a painting projects that you can do on your own.The instructions are detailed enough for anyone to follow and get results ranging from good to amazing depending on your knowledge and art training.If you are new to digital painting and you have mastered the fundamentals of art, this book could give ,you a very good insight on how to create character illustrations in photoshop.
Habe es mir nach langem Hin und Her dann doch selbst zum Geburtstag geschenkt, vor allem weil ich Charlie Bowater nahezu vergöttere und ihr unbedingt über die Schulter schauen wollte ... Das Buch ist wirklich sehr interessant und informativ - bezüglich des Character Designs als solches und den spezifischen Verwendungsarten von Photoshop. Dazu muss ich sagen, dass ich kein Neuling bin und bereits viel mit PS gearbeitet habe ... absolute Newbies dürften aber genauso ihre Freude damit haben.Die Abbildungen sind hochwertig, genauso wie Papier und Einband.Leider kam das Buch mit zerschlissenen Ecken am Buchrücken, was bei dem Preis und ausgewiesener Neuware ja doch eher ein Fauxpas ist. Dafür einen Stern Abzug. Ansonsten definitive Kaufempfehlungen!
Das Buch ist sehr hilfreich und wirklich perfekt für Anfänger geeignet! Das englische Fachjargon ist schon nötig, aber das kann man sich durch dieses Buch auch gut aneignen.Den Stern Abzug gibts für den miesen Zustand, in dem dieses Buch angekommen ist. Einmal in der Mitte geknickt. Ich bewahre das Buch, wenn ich es nicht benutzte immer zwischen anderen, schweren Büchern auf, damit es geglättet wird, aber der Knick wird wohl nie ganz rausgehen. Das find ich sehr ärgerlich!
Super Buch, step to step wird alles erklärt.Man erweitert sogar dadurch sein Englisch.Also mir gefällt das Buch . Empfehlenswert

Ich habe das Buch heute zum Geburtstag bekommen, der Inhalt ist grafisch und leserlich sehr ansprechend und hilft auf jedenfall sehr gut weiter jedoch war ich sehr von etwas anderem enttäuscht!Das Buch war ohne luftpolsterfolie in dem schmalen Amazon Karton und die Ränder sind schon beim auspacken angefressen gewesen, auf der Vorderseite genau über die Nase der Frau ist ein tiefer Kratzer den man sogar an der Innenseite fühlt.Der Buchrücken ist an den oberen und unteren Rändern schon leicht abgerissen,Für ein Buch diesen Themas und im Bereich dieser Medien ein sehr schlechter Auftritt!Davon abgesehen ist es jedoch ein sehr hilfreiches Buch, es erklärt teilweise Photoshop und gibt viele Tipps und Tricks für digital painting.
